Gun Control Do guns really kill people or are they just being blamed for it? This question come in to the minds of people whenever there is a shooting involved. For instances, when a 22 year old man went into sandy hook elementary school carrying firearms and tragically killing 20 children and 6 adult staff members. Whenever people debate about gun control, it always causes people to pick a side, on whether to support it or not. There are people that are anti-gun that support gun control, they feel that the government should ban guns in order to lower crime rate and to prevent future tragedies from happing again. Then there are people like the National Rifle Association that strongly believe in the second amendment and they also believeâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Former associate justice John Paul Stevens, who has served in the Supreme Court from 1975 to 2010, thinks that we should change the second amendment in order to protect people from gun violent. In his book called ââ¬Å"Six Amendmen ts: How and Why We Should Change the Constitution.â⬠He suggest that the people should replace the second Amendment so that it says the right of the people to keep and bear arms [when serving in the militia] shall not be infringed. What that means is that only people that are serving in the state militia are allowed to have gun. The reason Stevens wants to make this particular change to the second amendment so that Congress will stop arguing about whether or not the government has the power to regulate gun control and do what they think is best for the public. In other words, John Paul Stevens wants the government to have full control over the right to bear arms so that they can decide on weather what person is allowed to have guns. Stevens say that by doing this, there would be less crime committed by firearms. Not all of the people agree with John Paul Stevensââ¬â¢s idea to change the second amendment. National Rifle Association or the NRA for short say that in order to u nderstand the true meaning of the Second Amendment, it is important to understand the men who wrote and ratified it, and the issues they faced in creating the Constitution.
